Generally any SOH quantity adjustments should be made in the current accounting period. However the adjustment can be made back into a prior period. The cost of sale adjustments will be reflected in the accounting period selected.
If the adjustment is made in the current period, (Transaction Date = Today's date), the Unit Cost can be changed, otherwise the current cost will be used to adjust cost of sales.
If the current quantity on hand is zero, changing the Unit Cost will change the MovingAvg UnitCost for the item. In this situation there is no cost of sale adjustment.
There is an Inventory Adjustment report available to list stock on hand adjustments.

Changing the Unit Cost for Batch/Serial Stock Type Products
You cannot change the Unit Cost to the required cost as you do for standard products. If you do you will get yourself in a mess.
How to do it:
From the StockLocationInquiry screen we are going to be dealing with Trans - View IVTRN screen and Items - Available Packets.
Print the AvailableBatches.
The Quantity total of the AvailableBatches must be the same as the IVTRN Qty On Hand. If it isn't you need to do a PRADJ, ticking the O/R and entering the quantity adjustment.
If the Quantity totals agree you need to do the following calculation:
Quantity Total |
87.360 |
AvailableBatches total cost: |
23,811.36 |
IVTRN Value On Hand |
26143.51 |
Difference: |
2332.24 |
Divide by Quantity Total |
87.36 |
= Unit Cost Difference |
26.6968 |
We need to get the IVTRN Value On Hand agreeing with the AvailableBatches total cost, therefore the Unit Cost will be negative.
Create the transaction as per the screen shot.
O/R? is ticked and -26.6968 is entered as the Unit Cost.
IMPORTANT: before you tab off the My GL? column check that the COS Adjustment calculation is correct.
If it isn't, you can press F2 to cancel the line.
Once you tab off My GL? the transaction will be committed.
