Printer details are held in the Magic.ini file. The Magic.ini has to be thought of as the interface between the workstation, and the server, that holds

information relevant to a workstation that is required by the application at runtime.

Printer setting changes are saved to the magic.ini file when you close Maxim and exit normally.

Changes will NOT be saved if your Maxim session "timed out" and closed.

The best way to deal with printer settings is to get the settings correct in Printer Management and then LOG OFF Maxim.

Wait a couple of minutes and then LOG back ON.

Wait a few seconds for the printers to connect and then check Printer Management.

Make sure that the printers have connected and if the printer settings are the same as they were before logging off, then everything is OK.

If the settings haven't "held", then is is possible the magic.ini needs to be replaced.

NOTE: If you log on using a different computer, your Maxim printer settings may not now match the printers on the different computer.

The printers that are available to users need to be set up as follows:

Client and Server Environment (when WAN Connection Setting is False)

Your Printer Name

Enter any description

Full Printer Name

Enter the name of the printer exactly as named on your desk top.

If the printer is named PrinterName on SERVER then the Full Printer Name will
be: \\SERVER\PrinterName . This will be the case if the workstation is a NT Workstation. Use the Select Printer button to select a local printer defined in Windows.

Terminal Server Environment - MaximOnline (when WAN Connection Setting is True)

The default WAN Connection setting is set as the Corporate Group Level... see Corporate Group Details...

To connect to your local printer(s) you need to enter your local printer name in the Your Printer Name column.

You can view your selected printer(s) by clicking the Select Printer button. The first part of the printer names will be the name of your local printers.

Maxim will select your local printer(s) by a string match of the name in the Your Printer Name to the names in the select printers list.

For Example:

Selected Printer Name:        Kyocera FS-920 KX on subaru (redirect 1)

Your Printer Name:                Kyocera FS-920 KX

When you log into Maxim there is a default 5 second delay to allow your local printers to be seen by the terminal server. This delay can be extended if required by accessing the WAN Connection.

Select Printer

Will load the selected printer name into the Full Printer Name field

Printer Setup

Calls the Windows Printers window where Printer Properties can be changed

Wan Connection

See the above comments to do with the WAN Connection.

A WAN connection can be established for a specific session.  This may be necessary when you are accessing MOL from home and your local printers have been redirected.

Connect Printers

This function is enabled when the WAN connection is set to true.

Attribute File

Specifies the location of the file that contains the printer control codes relevant to the printer type.

Translate File

Specifies the location of a file containing a conversion table to convert Magic's internal character codes to the physical printer codes. Generally this file is not required.

Setting Up The Forms Printers

The Forms Printers are used to automatically direct output, such as sales invoices and purchase orders, without the need for the user to select a printer.

Enter Yes in the relevant column for the printer(s) that are the designated Forms Printers. Where there is only one printer enter Yes in all of the 3 columns.

Forms Printer1

This is the default printer for job invoices, sales invoices, sales orders confirmation, despatches and delivery notes.

Forms Printer2

This is the default printer for payment receipts, job sheets, purchase orders, stock receipts and pick lists.

Forms Printer3

This is the default printer for non standard forms, dot matrix forms, or a second label printer.

POS Printer

This is the point of sale cash slip printer, or a label printer.

Default Printer

This is your default printer. Reports that do not use the ROC Spooler will default to this printer, eg GUI reports that use the Print dialog window.

The Forms Printers allow invoices, etc to be printed to a printer without user intervention. The three form printers allows printing to a printer with standard A4 paper, or to a printer with special A4 forms paper, or to another printer with yard cards. To print to a printer with two trays, create two printers on your desktop, and set the printer options appropriately to select the required paper tray.

When a User logs onto the application, the forms printers as defined in the Printer Management screen for the Magic.ini that is active for the workstation, are updated onto the user's option (profile) record. These printers can be viewed from the Update User Options Screen.
